Do not begin by rewriting everything. First determine whether the problem is Error Rate, access, evidence, or positioning.
Capture the exact failure
Save the prompt, complete answer, model, date, location, audience context, and citations. A screenshot of one sentence is rarely enough to explain why the problem occurred or whether it repeats.
Run a controlled set of nearby questions to determine whether the issue is isolated or systematic. A false claim repeated across models and audiences deserves a different response from a one-off wording variation.
Classify the problem
Classification prevents teams from applying a generic content fix to every problem. It also makes progress measurable: each failure type has a different desired outcome.
- Share of Answers: the brand is absent from relevant questions.
- Evaluation: the brand appears but is evaluated or recommended weakly.
- Error Rate: the answer contains stale, confused, or false claims.
- Narrative: the facts may be correct, but the tracked message is missing or contradicted.
Trace the source and choose the action
Inspect cited pages and recurring uncited language. Determine whether the claim comes from owned content, influential coverage, reference material, reviews, public conversation, or missing technical access.
- Correct and clarify owned content when official information is weak or outdated.
- Build independent proof when the answer lacks credible third-party support.
- Work with relevant journalists or outlets when an important narrative is missing from coverage.
- Resolve access problems when current evidence cannot be crawled or retrieved.
- Update the monitoring design when the Study omits an important audience or question.
Verify the outcome over time
AI systems do not update on a predictable brand-controlled schedule. Continue running the same test conditions after the action, and distinguish a sustained change from normal response variation.
The goal is not to force one preferred sentence into every answer. It is to improve the accuracy, credibility, and usefulness of the information environment the answer draws from.
